We spoke to Megan and Joanna from Le Weekend about who they are, their ideal Spring picnic and what it means to be a female run and operated business.
"We're a boutique picnic and lifestyle brand based in Byron Bay specialising in handcrafted picnic baskets, picnic rugs and functional kitchen linens. We're big believers in quality over quantity and a 'less is more' approach, creating timeless pieces to be treasured for many years. With each of our products, we wish to share with our customers our love for good food and wine, for being immersed in nature, for travel and exploration and for sharing quality moments with loved ones. As sisters-in-law and long-time friends, our business was born out of a genuine love for getting outdoors and enjoying many great picnics together over the years - from Byron Bay to the French Pyrenées - and we're so glad we've been able to share this love with others through our products - many of which have been inspired by our travels together."
"Clear blue skies, Byron Bay Lighthouse walks, morning swims, flowy dresses, relaxing under a tree, breathing in fresh, fragrant air...and of course, picnicking!"
"Late afternoon setup somewhere with a beautiful outlook. We like to keep the food pretty simple - a fresh baguette, some fruit, good quality cheese and a nice bottle of wine. We also love a good oyster and champagne picnic!"
"Given we both had babies last year and Megan also has a 3-year-old, we have to have a very flexible working arrangement, and patience is key! Oftentimes, we will have walking or lounge room floor meetings, with our little ones in tow.
It's good to establish some boundaries when you have a business - we try to limit our work conversations to typical business hours and have set roles so we can each get on with our tasks in our own time and then get together for solid work sessions - though, often our best ideas come when we're not technically working but just enjoying each other's company!
It's also really important to change up your environment and get outdoors as often as possible - you can't beat fresh air and sunshine."
"We're really proud that we've been able to run this business while also being mothers. Thanks to other female entrepreneurs that have paved the way before us, along with technology, it really feels as though anything is possible. Working hard, trusting and staying true to our vision is very empowering as a woman and something we hope our daughters will be proud of. We are also incredibly fortunate to have very supportive husbands who help us in the business and with the kids; we couldn't do it without them so Le Weekend has very much been a family endeavour."
"Start small and evolve at your own pace rather than rush ahead or try and do too much at once...and always stay true to yourself and your brand."
