“Where to go:”

Hydra is a magical island just off the coast of the Peloponnese in Greece. A quiet, bohemian island, Hydra was a hub for intellectuals and artists and this still holds true today. The island is punctuated by breathtakingly beautiful rocky outcrops for beaches, quaint seaside tavernas and fishing boats bobbing in the port. There are no cars on the island - donkeys are the only mode of transport. Hydra is the perfect island to enjoy all the charms of the quintessential Mediterranean life.

“Where to eat and drink: ”

Our favourite spot on the island to the east is Kodylenia’s Taverna. It’s a wonderfully authentic fish tavern that serves the freshest catch of the day. They also serve delicacies from the island such as hand-picked caper leaves that make for the lightest and tasty late afternoon meal. A bottle of ouzo is also a must!

Spilia is a stunning spot for a late afternoon swim. Perched high on the rocks by the sea, Spilia overlooks the whole of Hydra town. You can dive straight from the bar into the sea. Sip on an affogato freddo spiked with frangelico and watch the sunset.

“What to do:”

The idea in Hydra is not to do much at all but rather soak in every minute of the island’s charms by falling into the rhythm of wake, eat, sleep, and swim. Explore many of the island's pebble-strewn beaches by foot, or you can charter a boat and sail around the island and beach hop, or visit neighbouring islands for secluded swims in pristine waters. Our favourites are Dokos, Spetses or taking a boat to the mainland and having a drink at Amanzoe to watch the sunset.

“Where to sleep: ”

We suggest staying right in Hydra town, as you’re within walking distance of all the beaches, shops and cafes and are immersed in the gentle hustle and bustle of the every day island life. The Orloff hotel is the perfect mix of traditional yet luxurious.

“What to wear:”

Hydra is a simple, yet elegant island and the people dress accordingly. We suggest wearing light fabrics to keep you cool in the peak of the summer. Wearing a pair of simple trousers or a sarong makes it easy to traipse around the island and easily slip into bathers for a swim. Bright colours always inject a summery feeling into any vacation.
