“How did the idea of the collaboration come about?”

Joyah: "We first met back in 2018, when Constanze was the campaign muse of our ‘La Femme’ collection. Over the years we have kept in touch, and followed along to see Constanze launch Basium. What we really admire about Basium, is the use of all natural, plant based, vegan and cruelty free ingredients within the product range. Their commitment to sustainability, developing relationships and building communities, are also values that really align with our own here at Faithfull The Brand. After featuring Basium on our journal earlier in the year, we learnt more about the creative process and inspiration behind the products, which sparked the conversation around a collaboration. After a brainstorming session over email, we decided on the exciting project; to create an exclusive ‘Basium x Faithfull The Brand’ scented perfume oil, to align with our Resort ’21 collection, Le Désert."

“What was the sampling process like? How did you narrow down and choose the perfect scent for the collaboration?”

Joyah: "We set out by looking at Le Désert, and discussing what kind of scent notes would resonate with the feeling and inspiration behind the collection. We loved the idea of bringing in dead sandalwood, a key ingredient in Basium’s existing product range, as it is harvested in a sustainable way and comes from the Western Australian desert, which is so close to home. From here, the Basium team put together 3 scent options for us to choose from. Our team in Sydney tested out each sample and it was unanimous amongst the team that ‘Calor’ was the perfect scent. Basium initially described this scent to us as “carefree and bohemian” which we fell in love with straight away!"

“What inspired the scent notes?”

Constanze: "We knew from the beginning that we wanted to build a scent around the Australian dead sandalwood we discovered a couple of years ago and have previously used in our other scents. It is called Dead Sandalwood because no trees are being cut down in the process, instead only wood found on the forest floor is being used. It presents the natural life cycle of a native tree which can be anywhere between zero and a hundred years of age. This technique allows all parts of the sandalwood tree to be used which makes this one of the first sustainably sourced sandalwood oils and the oil is described by many as being sweeter and richer than regular sandalwood oil. Adding Eucalyptus, also from Australia and a light top note of bergamot rounded up the perfume perfectly."

“What was the inspiration/meaning behind the scent name, Calor?”

Constanze: "The word Calor is Latin and translates to warmth and glow. We felt this description worked so well with this scent, which is inspired by the beautiful red glow of the Australian desert, a place with a close personal connection."

“What are some of the benefits of natural perfume oils?”

Constanze: "There really are so many benefits to using natural perfume oils, rather than the common synthetic perfumes that everyone is so accustomed to. Some of the main benefits include altering your emotional state in a positive way and promoting healing properties such as relaxing the mind and lifting your mood. And unlike synthetics options, they do not have any chemicals which can lead to negative side effects such as hormone disruption, migraines, and nausea."
