Inspired Artworks With Carla Nicieza

To celebrate the launch of the Spring 2025 collection, La Madrague, beloved #FAITHFULLGirl, artist and designer, Carla Nicieza, created four custom artworks inspired by her favourite pieces. Below, she shares intimate details into her creative process and how each piece came to life.

Dalias On A Blue Vase

“The print on the Sanne Mini Dress made me think of my mom and how she fills every corner of the house with little vases of wildflowers, always random but always beautiful. This painting is a small tribute to that.”

Night At The Bodega

“This piece was inspired by the deep red of the Lydie Maxi Dress. That shade of red reminds me of Spanish colmados – clay pots, fresh fruit, cheese, and glasses of wine. It just felt natural to bring that atmosphere into a painting.”

Ingredient List For Dinner

“The deep navy of the Clove Trousers is one of my favorite colours, and I use it a lot in my paintings. I wanted to capture the contrast of white and blue, adding elements like onions and sardines – ingredients my dad loves to cook (and paint). I think I’ve inherited this fascination from him.”

Menu Of The Day In Some Italian Village

“This one was inspired by summer days in Italy and the style and print of the Soame Maxi Dress. Through my work, I paint moments I love or long for, and warm Mediterranean afternoons are something I always find myself yearning for during the winter months.”

Inside Carla’s Creative Process

I would describe myself as… calm, creative, and curious.

I find inspiration in the simple pleasures of life… starting the day with a morning coffee by the sea, followed by a painting session in my studio. I love getting lost in books and Pinterest for hours, and nature is a huge part of my creative process. I feel grateful for living in a place with beautiful landscapes and architecture, and plenty of sun.

My creative process… varies daily, but I always begin by setting the mood – playing Japanese jazz, burning incense sticks, brewing tea or coffee, and preparing my materials. Once my table is ready, I start sketching on paper or canvas, and just allowing myself to experiment, without worrying about making something perfect.

I love to play with… different mediums and materials to create my pieces. Some of my favorites include Chinese ink, handmade paper, and vintage Mallorquín cotton, which I source from second-hand markets on the island.

When I create… my space is always peaceful and filled with light. I enjoy both daytime painting sessions and late-night ones, illuminated by small lamps and candles.

Shop Carla’s Favourite Pieces

“FAITHFULL is my go-to for easy, timeless garments in thick linen – perfect for island life. I have a few of their basics, and I love how they’re simple yet so well-made, with beautiful cuts and fabrics.

Right now, I’m obsessed with the Soame Maxi Dress in Espresso. I can’t wait for warmer days to wear it and grab a matching espresso at a little terrace somewhere. The print reminds me of one Carolyn Bessette wore in New York – effortless, classic, and just so chic. I would pair it with a small handbag and heeled strappy sandals.”
